Anatoly shook his head, smiling wryly. "I always thought the future was supposed to be better, that people would be happier, free from fear. I am not sure whether it's comforting or depressing to know that nothing really changes."

It didn't seem right though, that she should have suffer. Perhaps it was over-protective of him, but he thought Sookie ought to be able to be happy and enjoy herself here without having to worry about what might be.
